Oxo Family, Philips Everyday Hero and more: creative ideas of the week

Between bookmarked sites, Twitter and RSS feeds which showcase advertising, I come across many new creative ideas every week. As with advertising in real life, only a handful are memorable. Here are my picks for the week ending 30th September: Oxo, Philips and more.

1. Oxo family

In the 80s, the ‘Oxo family’ featured in a series of advertisements featuring a typical British family. The campaign was popular and ran till the late 90s. The brand has now revived the ‘family’, suitably refreshed for the times. I loved the simplicity of the ads and the classic TV spot approach without resorting to hashtag this and Instagram that – not to mention the smile it brings on your face. Nice to see media coverage even for a traditional TV spot driven campaign.

2. General Electric

This kind of visual approach has been done by mouth freshener brands before but is still striking and gets the point across for this oven hood.

3. Philips: Everyday Hero

This campaign for Philips Healthcare was apparently inspired by a true story. I liked the fact that it wasn’t a hard sell of the product range but a reflection of the ethos of the brand.

Agency: Ogilvy, London

4. Wildlife Conservation Film Festival

This superbly executed film for Wildlife Conservation Film Festival tells the story of four animals facing extinction through the words of “I Dreamed a Dream”. The end is gut wrenching and reminds us of human kind’s never ending greed and disregard for nature.
