As with every week (well, almost) I present a short compilation of ads which caught my eye. This week: more moment marketing, quirky ad for Visit Oslo among others. Visit Oslo: is it even a city? Selling a destination – be it a city or country is not comparable to selling a consume product or durable. First, consumers seek an experience visiting a new tourist spot. That may not always be the case with other…

Last week, both the advertising & tech portals discussed the controversy over the ‘Crush’ ad for iPad Pro. There were few other notable ads (I attempt a weekly compilation as seen in the archives) including Huggies, Volkswagen and Vadilal. O Boticario: Tempest Many brands see Mother’s Day as an opportunity to advertise. In a way, they make it about themselves and not about mothers. A majority of such efforts force fit the brand in the…

Every week I attempt to curate a collection of clutter-breaking creative ads. In this week’s compilation of advertising: a flight safety video from TUI, a fun TVC for a flavoured bottle drink and more. TUI: flight safety video I think it was Air New Zealand which was among the pioneers to create ‘out of the box’ flight safety videos. There have been many interesting ones since then, including a recent one from Air India. Travel…

Every week I attempt to share a compilation of creative ads. Crafting clutter breaking advertising deserves kudos as a majority of ads are simply ignored by us. Here are a few which caught my eye this week: Barnardo’s: feel like you belong Sometimes, a literal expression of a popular metaphor drives home the message effectively. The phrase ‘going into a shell’ is often used to cue an introvert’s behaviour. A new ad for Barnardo’s a…

I attempt to curate a list of clutter-breaking creative ads every week along with an occasional posts on trends in the industry. Last week I missed such a post and here with a compilation of a few ads which caught my eye in the past few weeks. Chevrolet: memories How do you create clutter breaking advertising among a sea of feel-good Christmas ads, retaining the same tone and manner as so many others? I think…

Ads which break through clutter of information overload and other messages vying for one’s attention need to be applauded. Because getting noticed is the first and most important task of any ad. If ignored, it’s a fate worse than being seen and disliked. My weekly compilation of creative ads (aside from my occasional views on the business of advertising) is a small tribute to brand teams & agencies everywhere. Here are my picks form the past week or…

Most ads go unnoticed. In a 2017 article, Dave Trott said ‘In the UK £20.3 billion is spent each year on all forms of advertising and marketing. Of this 4% is remembered positively. 7% is remembered negatively. And a massive 89% isn’t even noticed or remembered.’ In that context, creating ads which are clutter-breaking and remembered (for the right reasons) are commendable. Here are a few which caught my eye this past week: LinkedIn: Laundromat…

Anybody can be a critic of advertising. But that’s not the toughest part of the business – getting noticed is. A small number of creative ads manage to break through the clutter and get noticed. A fewer number of these go on to be recalled and talked about in a positive way. My weekly column of creative ads is a small tribute to brand teams everywhere who produce entertaining, engaging and relevant creative work. These were some…

An ad’s first task is to get noticed. The top creative ads in any era – be it in the pre-digital or digital world first stood out from the media clutter of the day. Of course, just being noticed is not enough (being ignored is a worse fate though) – a brand’s message has to be relevant (to the intended audience), engaging (either entertaining or holding attention through shock value or any other emotion) and…
