Fly You Fools – Indian Comics about Life.
Binary Day has compiled a ranking of 250 Indian blogs. The measures used include Yahoo backlinks, Technoratiy rank, and delicious bookmark counts. Was surprised to find this blog on that list (No. 196) and equally surprised to find popular blogs like Krishashok and Let’s Put Da missed out.
Yet another Saif-Kareena starrer from Airtel. The objective is single minded – convey the simplicity of using Hello Tunes – and the creative idea of using a life-like relationship between the celebs is interesting. Sure to be popular. Was there an opportunity in exaggerating the simplicity of use – like maybe, a simple conversation leading to the tune being set? But there’s more to it than meets the eye. Just like an art film, the…
The tech world and the digital space is abuzz with Steve Jobs’ announcement to take medical leave until June this year. The focus is on whether Steve & Apple have been completely transparent with investors regarding his health and the future of the company and the brand. For many (read, the ‘stock market’?), Steve Jobs is Apple. But as many reports have pointed out, ‘Apple can take care of Apple’. This is not say that…
A campaign for Animaster is doing the rounds of ad blogs. While the idea of ‘Careful what you think (of)’ is apt for an animation course and the art direction is good, the campaign is uncomfortably similar to one that was released in 2006. See here for more of the originals. What say?
Airtel has launched their services in Sri Lanka recently. The launch ad is a slice of life approach, common to many mobile phone service brands in this part of the world. Interesting to see Shahrukh Khan here too. Having lived in Sri Lanka for a couple of years, I can vouch for his popularity. Wisely though, Airtel seems to have also roped in Kumar Sangakkara, as evident on their website. Good to see another Indian…
You won’t regret investing in this book: Advertising Next by Tom Himpe. In India, you could try Landmark – I bought it from their Chennai outlet. It’s a great repository of ‘new media’ ideas and if you are in an Advertising Agency, I would say it’s a must-read. What I liked was the way the contents were organized: almost like caveats for today’s advertising.
This is certainly an innovative use of Facebook Apps. Whopper Sacrifice has introduced a Facebook application that is getting a lot of buzz – at least in the Social Media blogs. The concept: delete 10 of your Facebook friends and get a free Whopper. This is cool for two reasons. Firstly, there’s only a handful of friends you interact with most on social networking platforms. And along the way, we’ve all added people whom we…
Happened to stumble upon this outrageously cheesy ad for a new product from Microsoft: Songsmith – an application that helps users create music/songs by providing the background music. Sounds cool. Can’t say the same about the ad, though. Is this meant to be a parody of some Hollywood musical or is at an ‘ad, ad’? The ‘humour’ starting with a feature film-like certificate, is lost on me. Could you get through the entire TVC without…
Ray Ban’s new viral for Never Hide is out. If you grew up seeped in traditional advertising, your likely response to this will be ‘WTF?’. As a video meant to shock and be a conversation starter, this works. This is perhaps the third (?) in the series of viral ads created by Ray Ban for Never Hide. They are a master class for brands wanting to go ‘viral’ in India but end up with a…
