Adorable ads from @TBWA_Paris for McDonalds, @motherlondon for IKEA and more: creative ideas of the week

There are hundreds of commercial messages vying for our attention everyday across traditional and new media. Only a handful are noticed. Here are a few creative ideas which caught my eye, the week ending 14th July, 2017: adorable ads for McDonalds, IKEA and more.

1. McDonalds: the door

‘Irresistible taste’ is a common platform in food advertising. The proposition has lent itself to variations like ‘will go to any length to have it’ or ‘a bribe you can’t say no to’. Remember, the old ‘jalebi!’ ad from Dhaara? A new spot for McDonalds, France taps on these sentiments wonderfully. The spot is anchored on very believable insight of sibling jealousy when a new born comes home. The simple execution is endearing and brings a smile.

2. IKEA: Lion Man

This spot is a continuation of the ‘Wonderful Everyday‘ campaign launched last year. “We’ve all forgotten how to relax, especially in the living room,” says the IKEA spokesperson to introduce ‘Relax Into Greatness’. The idea is based on a fun fact: Lions spend up to 18 hours per day at rest. The connect being attempted is ‘in order to achieve great things, we need to fully recharge our minds and bodies’.

3. JetBlue: Little Tickets

We live in a world where marketing activities cannot be boxed into PR, activation or advertising. Here is a stunt from JetBlue where they got kids to ‘plan for vacations’. Kids are asked about favourite destinations, amenities they’d expect and also how much they’d pay for such. So kids who thought a flight ticket costs $4 were given that! Makes for great YouTube video which can go viral.
