Auping ventilating pillows: Dutch humour

TV commercials where the product’s attribute or benefit are built into the core of the script are usually stand outs. This one is no different. The TV spot for Auping pillows & duvets dramatizes the benefit of ventilation. And the self deprecating humour, albeit with a Western appeal, works.

Agency: Selmore, Amsterdam. The commercial won a Silver at the Epica Awards, 2009.

Agency compensation and back door earning

Articles on the advertising industry usually cover new account wins, news on creative awards, people or account movements and interviews with advertising personalities. When it comes to larger industry issues, it is usually about consumer behaviour future trends, talent issue in the advertising business and so on. But one topic which in my opinion does not get talked about often enough, is the...

Epica Awards 2009: Mercedes Benz meets Malayalam

The winners of the 2009 European Advertising Festival – Epica Awards, were announced recently. Surprisingly, UK was not the lead country in terms of winners – it was Germany. Among the finalists in the Automotive Category is this campaign from Jung von Matt/Limmat AG (Zurich) for Mercedes Benz. Palindromes aren’t new in this category. But this 6-ad campaign to promote the...

5 reasons why Apple ain’t interested in India (and vice versa)

August 9 was the promised launch date for the iPhone 3GS in India. Nothing has happened since then (‘end Nov, Sir’ is what the Imagine Store at UB City said earlier this month) and no one is complaining. Save for some murmurs on the blogs, there is an uncaring silence in media. Can you imagine the public uproar if this were to happen in the US – where Apple promises something...

Bhatnaturally: part of Best Business Blog nominations

This must be a mistake. Bhatnaturally has been nominated in the Best Business Blogs category at The Indibloggies – the Indian Weblog Awards 2008. The full list is here. Some of my favourites among the other categories: Bengalooru Banter Ramesh Srivats’ Twitter Feed and his personal blog Doing Jalsa Showing Jilpa Son of Bosey Domain Maximus The jury has nominated the blogs. I guess...

Vodafone’s one second billing: small talk, big performances

Vodafone’s response to the Tata Docomo onslaught on one-second billing is a set of 30-seconders focused on the ability of ‘small conversations’ to say it all. What sets apart these minimalist ads is the quality of performances (almost as good as their own ad released earlier this year). The ‘couple’ one especially, has great casting. Every little gesture of the lady...

Those shiny suds could be perverts

This seems like cause marketing week. The folks at Method, makers of environment-friendly home and personal care products, have created the People Against Dirty campaign. The argument: your household cleaner could be dirty. The TV commercial (Droga 5) is quite amusing thanks to the literal take on suds that get dirty. The online activity isn’t elaborate – the website will perhaps take...
