Close on the heels of the ad introducing Google Chrome in the UK (created by BBH-Labs and Glue London) comes this wrap around ad. Released today in the Metro, a UK daily, this 4-page wrap around highlights the 7 features of Chrome viz., speed, stability, security, omnibox, new tab, Incognito and Themes. And in keeping with the spirit of the holiday season, the last page highlights the to-do’s: Interesting to see Google get aggressive on…

Came across this ad for Timberland in the e-edition of Metro, UK. While cause-related brands are having a field day, thanks to the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen, nice to see a hard core product related ad tying up with the event. Thankfully, they aren’t simply stopping with a plea of ‘do more, leaders’, but walking the talk. The copy says: While our government leaders are debating climate change in Copenhagen, we’re actually doing something…

This is the first time I have come across a big agency work for Google. BBH -Labs has created this stylish set of spots for Google Chrome. BBH Labs won the Google Chrome account along with Glue London. Definitely adds extra shine to the already hip image of Google and Google Chrome. Likely to hit the viral charts soon, me thinks.

It’s already that time of the year – everyone will pull out their lists and countdowns. So why not revisit some of the better work coming out of advertising agencies, in 2009? Let’s start with a quick dekko of the Outdoor work that caught my fancy: 1. Aircel: this wasn’t an outdoor campaign but just a single hoarding created in Mumbai. But the buzz it created was equal to a multimillion dollar campaign. Thanks to…

Travel & tourism usually showcase the splendour of the host country – breathtaking visuals and a visual tour of the sights are common. Among this lot comes this amusing campaign for Swiss Tourism, which dramatizes the length to which ordinary Swiss folks go, to deliver the perfect holiday. It could mean cleaning the mountains (!), pressing the flags, oiling the squeaky windows and so on. I thought the press ads worked a tad better than…

At an international conference for packaging earlier this year, KIAN Brand Agency of Moscow undertook an interesting project. The project – a packaging concept for Soy Milk was aimed at informing regular milk consumers that milk obtained from natural plants is as good as cow’s milk. While design elements that resemble a cow would have been the obvious first choice, I liked the way the entire concept has been taken forward in an integrated way.

News of Bajaj Auto exiting the scooter business is making the rounds of business newspapers today. The decision has been compelled by the changing nature of the 2-wheeler market in India, which is slowly but surely shifting to motorbikes. In fact Bajaj stopped making the flagship Chetak scotter 3 years ago. I think Bajaj must be commended for taking decisive action and focus only on their ambition of becoming a global leader in motorbikes. The…

Last week, Uninor – the JV between Telenor and Unitech launched in Bangalore. There was a splash in the Dec 4 issue of the Times of India, including the masthead being tweaked to include the Uninor logo. Frankly, I missed the change in the masthead but noticed the ads which were smack bang in the middle of the pages. I am all for innovation in media space, but tinkering with the masthead? I recall an…

I guess folks outside of advertising – also known as consumers, have come to accept that advertising exaggerates. Hyperbole is part of advertising and when it stops of short of being incredulous it is sometimes entertaining. Suspension of disbelief makes them enjoy ads for cold creams that promise younger looking skin, perfumes that turn a man into a chic magnet, shirts that get you a promotion, elephants that remember the last Rolo you had 20…

I am not really a huge fan of ‘guess the ending’ and ‘complete the story’ kind of ideas on the Net, which involve consumer participation. It’s been done before and unless the participation is encouraged by providing tools and easy uploads, the response is likely to be lukewarm. There have been exceptions – like the Indica Xeta effort in India or the Tide user generated content. Vodafone is extending the popularity of the Zoozoos TV…
