Last year, the HBO Voyeur campaign won the Grand Prix in the Promo category. This year, a campaign for Yubari city won the Grand Prix in the same category, along with a PR Lion. If any proof is needed as to there’s no telling what will impact the Cannes jurors, here it is. The HBO Voyeur campaign was jaw-dropping in terms of conceptualization and execution. The Yubari city campaign is more traditional, relatively speaking. I…
The top 10 paid iPhone applications at the iTunes India store (at the time of writing) include action games, radio and a religious app – the Hanuman Chalisa. The last category is as yet, an untapped one. A photo of a deity is a pretty common feature in most work stations. Virtual poojas on PCs, religious desktop wallpapers, screen savers and such like are also common. There are several apps already catering to the religious…
Big Babol’s new TV commercial highlighting it’s effectiveness is likely to be popular. ‘Big’ bubble is a common platform in this category with exaggeration being the norm. It is possible to imbue it with intelligent humour or even endearing ‘oh-so-cute’ humour. This one relies on toilet humour of the bird kind and in that sense is a bit juvenile. Going one up on adults is a oft-seen elements in ads targeted at kids, you could…
Leo Burnett has an annual tradition of picking their Cannes Lions favourites. And they usually have a screening of their picks and invite the advertising community for viewing. This year too, a team led by Leo Burnett Worldwide Chief Creative Officer Mark Tutssel viewed thousands of campaigns, monitored global and local award shows and followed the general industry buzz to select the work for this year’s collection. You can also view the playlist here. I…
Came home to find a complimentary copy of a magazine called Right Choice, a review magazine on consumer goods and services. Frankly, I hadn’t heard of it before and was unaware of it’s business model. Set up by the UK-based Which?, a leading consumer guide, it is positioned as a consumer’s guide to better buying. Which? Right Choice claims that it is unbiased since it does not accept any advertising. So a subscription-based magazine that…
I missed this campaign released during April’09 (must have featured in the ad blogs when I was away in ‘native place’) . Quite amazing how a story as complicated as ‘bad food makes bad dogs and when bad, they purposely misbehave’ can be told so evocatively in static media. Each ad has been crafted so well, that you tend to notice a new nuance every time. Advertising Agency: Prolam Y&R Santiago, Santiago, Chile. Via: I…
Interesting post from Tom Fishburne on the ‘tension of glocalization’ – the eternal tug of war between ‘global consistency and local adaptation’. He cites the example of Apple’s Get a Mac ads, as an example of ‘one idea, one voice’ across US, UK and Japanese markets. According to him, an Apple director said that ‘local customization was a cop-out, a sign of failure’ and that ‘a consumer insight should be universal if you distill it…
You think only brands offer consumers smaller SKUs or increased value during these recessionary times? Advertising agencies do too. We had Contract devising an ideas pool of sorts. Now Grey Amsterdam has launched a new service called Grey Lite, to support clients through a tough financial year. The service offers ‘small jobs, small prices’ to clients who are looking for extra-fast, extra-value services. The launch website reflects this thought – the site’s content is miniscule…
The new ad for Center Fresh brings in a nice twist to the ‘Zubaan pe lagaam’ (‘zip your mouth’) concept. They faltered in my opinion with the last one, but this one scores high on involvement. The build up is the typical Government ad made familiar during several election campaigns. It has the feel of the documentary films one was exposed to in cinema halls as a kid. The twist in showing what the characters…
Us folks in India are familiar with paint companies’ claims of matching any colour that we have in mind. From ‘mera wala pink’ to ‘you can’t think colours, see them’ to several others in between, we’ve seen them all. I thought this was a great take on ‘we match any colours’ especially since it is executed in a static medium. Advertising Agency: RT&A/ R.Treviño & Asociados, Monterrey, México Via: adgoodness
