Samsung ‘Chant’, Tesco mobile and more: creative ideas of the week

Between bookmarked sites, Twitter and RSS feeds which showcase advertising, I come across many new creative ideas every week. As with advertising in real life, only a handful are memorable. Here are my picks for the week ending 24th June, 2016: Samsung Gear, Tesco mobile and more.

Samsung: The Chant

Sports-based themes lend themselves well to high-energy, goose-flesh inducing ads. A new ad from Samsung based on Margret Rumat Rumar Hassan, the 19-year-old 400-meter runner who represents South Sudan (a first time participant country in the Olympics) is one such. There is a connect to the product – chord-free earbuds, albeit tenuous. The ad makes for a compelling watch alright and gets you rooting for the athlete.

Agency: Leo Burnett, Chicago

Tesco Mobile: smile

It is summer time in Britain and some nasty surprises await them as they travel on vacation. The premise: no surprises with the mobile roaming charges. A fun spot sure to touch a chord among travellers.

Agency: SapientNitro

Nike: Worth the wait

Another sports based film but without the ra-ra chest thumping, high adrenaline acts. The stunned reactions almost in disbelief to the Cleveland Cavaliers winning the NBA title keeps it real and the viewer hooked.

Agency W+K, Portland

Visa: lost luggage

A set of print ads to highlight coverage against lost luggage. Visual puns based on country flags aren’t new but these are refreshingly new…evoke a double take in you.

Agency: AlmapBBDO, São Paulo, Brazil

Which one was your favourite? Anything I missed from last week? Do comment in.
