Every day we all see hundreds of ads but hardly notice a handful. Only a small portion of ads are noticed and an even smaller number is memorable. Every week, I attempt to compile a list of compelling creative ads which caught my attention – made me smile, laugh or empathise. Here are a few from week ending August 2nd, 2019.
The Great British Bake Off: trailer
In 2017, the trailer for the hugely popular The Great British Bake Off personified the baked products in an animated film. This year the trailer shifts focus to the people behind the bakes in an equally riveting film showcasing how the show brings the nation together.
Agency: Channel 4
Aviation Gin: truce
I love the idea, writing and acting in the Aviation Gin ads. The humorous banter, the dramatising of the process and the great use of Ryan Reynolds (the owner of Aviation Gin) make for compelling view. In the recent past, Ryan and Hugh Jackman have had some friendly sparring on social media and recently called a truce. With that as a context, this new ad promoting Aviation Gin and Laughin Man coffee (owned by Hugh Jackman) is hilarious.
Pantene: power of grey
When one spots grey hair, the normal tendency is to cover it up with hair colour. In a category dominated by stereotypes of shiny black hair, Pantene’s new ad showcasing women with grey hair and proud of it, does stand out.
Dr. Dog dry shampoo: wet dog
This isn’t a new campaign and was seen in trade portals a couple of months ago. It surfaced again in my Twitter stream as it was shared by someone. Anyone who has had a dog as pet can empathise with that look.
Agency: Propeg, Brazil.
